Men are increasingly embracing the benefits of cosmetic surgery, and rhinoplasty is no exception. In addition to enhancing the aesthetics of the nose, rhinoplasty can also address functional issues, improving breathing and overall nasal function.
Male nose reshaping surgery has gained popularity due to its ability to deliver significant functional and cosmetic improvements. Whether it’s correcting a dorsal hump, reducing the size of a prominent nose, refining an over-projecting tip, or narrowing a wide nose, rhinoplasty offers solutions to these concerns.
Understanding that men typically desire a masculine/strong-looking nose, Dr Kleid takes great care to tailor the rhinoplasty procedure to meet each patient’s specific needs. The goal is to achieve results that are subtle yet effective, maintaining the patient’s unique masculine characteristics.
Dr Kleid is committed to providing comprehensive guidance to help you make informed decisions about your rhinoplasty journey.

What is Male Rhinoplasty?
Male rhinoplasty, also known as male nose reshaping surgery, male rhino, male nose job, or male nose surgery, focuses on altering the shape of a man’s nose. This procedure can be performed for cosmetic purposes or to address breathing difficulties.
In contrast to a traditional nose job, male rhinoplasty is tailored to meet the specific cosmetic goals of men. The objective is to reshape the nose without feminizing its appearance or creating an artificial look. Dr Stephen Kleid approaches male rhinoplasty with a commitment to achieving subtle changes that preserve the natural masculine aesthetics of the face.

Male Rhinoplasty vs Female Rhinoplasty
The male nose and the female nose have some distinct differences in their appearance. While it’s important to note that these are generalizations and individual variations exist, the following characteristics are commonly observed:
- Size:
- In general, male noses tend to be larger in size compared to female noses.
- This includes the overall length, width, and height of the nose.
- Shape:
- Male noses often have a more prominent and angular shape.
- The nasal bridge, or dorsum, tends to be straighter and more pronounced.
- The tip of the nose may have a slightly different shape as well, with a more defined or squared-off appearance.
- Nostrils:
- The nostrils of male noses are typically wider and larger than those of female noses.
- They may have a more rounded or square shape.
- Nasolabial Angle:
- The angle between the nose and the upper lip, known as the nasolabial angle, is generally larger in males.
- This can contribute to a more prominent or projected appearance of the nose.
It’s important to recognize that these differences are not absolute, and there can be variations within individuals. Additionally, the desired outcome of rhinoplasty can vary for each person, regardless of gender, as individual preferences and aesthetic goals differ. A skilled surgeon like Dr Kleid can help tailor the rhinoplasty procedure to meet the specific needs and desired results of each patient, whether male or female.
Male Rhinoplasty Candidate
Patients may opt to undergo a male nose job/Rhinoplasty for physical and/or functional reasons. You may be a candidate for rhinoplasty if have one or more of the following:

- Excessively projecting nose
- Dorsal hump
- Down projecting nasal tip
- Either a boxy or round nasal tip
- Large wide nostrils
- Narrow collapsed nostrils
- Winged snarling nostrils
- Crooked nose
- Asymmetrical nose
- Breathing problems due to nasal airway narrowing
A male nose job is a versatile procedure and can be modified to help multiple problems. Dr Kleid will do Tipplasty for tip problems, Alarplasty for nostril problems, and Septoplasty for septum problems. He will mix these techniques to give each patient the outcomes they desire.
Male Rhinoplasty Benefits
Male Rhinoplasty offers numerous potential benefits including;
Enhanced Facial Harmony
Male Rhinoplasty can improve the overall facial balance and harmony by addressing specific nasal concerns. It aims to create a nose that complements the other facial features, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Correction of Nasal Imperfections
Whether you have a large or crooked nose, a prominent hump, a wide nasal bridge, or asymmetrical nostrils, male Rhinoplasty can address these imperfections and bring your nose into better proportion with your face.
Improved Breathing Function
In addition to cosmetic enhancements, male Rhinoplasty can also correct structural abnormalities that may be causing breathing difficulties. By optimizing the nasal airway, the surgery can help improve breathing and enhance overall respiratory function.
It’s important to consult with a qualified and experienced surgeon to discuss your specific concerns and goals. They will assess your unique facial features and provide guidance on the best approach to achieve optimal results with male Rhinoplasty.
How is a Nose Job Performed
Although a patient can go under either general or local anesthesia, Dr Kleid prefers General Anesthesia. General Anesthesia means that you will be completely unconscious during the procedure.
There are two ways Dr Kleid can access the deeper tissue of your nose: the open and the closed techniques:
- In the open technique, Dr Kleid will make a skin incision right under the middle part of your nose (columnella)
- In the closed technique, Dr Kleid will make an incision inside the nose
The type of incision that Dr Kleid chooses depends on what the patient needs are. In general, a full male rhinoplasty requires an open incision. This allows Dr Kleid to gain access to the deeper tissue that gives your nose its shape: the cartilage and bone.
Dr Kleid will reshape the cartilage, cut out any excessive parts, refine the tip, and either debride the nasal bones or break them to make your nose smaller. He will do a combination of approaches to achieve the final desired outcome.
Since a male rhinoplasty is specifically tailored for men’s needs, Dr Kleid will implement several techniques to give the nose a masculine and manly look. He will:
- Avoid over-reducing your dorsum to keep it straight
- Maintain a calculated nasal width
- Avoid both excessively refining the nasal tip and over-lifting the tip
After the surgery is complete, you will have your nose stuffed with gauze. You will be woken up and taken to the recovery room.
In general, male rhinoplasty is a one-day surgery and you can be able to go home after you’re surgery.
Male Rhinoplasty Recovery
Recovering from a male rhinoplasty procedure is a manageable process that our patients successfully navigate. While it is normal to have concerns about the recovery period, rest assured that the discomfort is typically well-tolerated and the duration of recovery is manageable.
Pain levels during recovery vary from person to person, but most patients report mild to moderate discomfort rather than severe pain.
Your surgeon will provide you with appropriate pain management techniques and medications to help alleviate any discomfort you may experience. It is important to follow their instructions and take prescribed medications as directed.
Here are the normal symptoms that you can expect after a male nose job:
- Pain
- Pain after male rhinoplasty usually peaks at around day 3-4 after your surgery. It will then start to decline.
- our surgeon will provide you with appropriate pain management techniques and medications to help alleviate any discomfort you may experience.
- Swelling and Bruising
- Both are common after Rhinoplasty, but they will gradually subside over time.
- The majority of the swelling will dissipate over 3-4 weeks however residual swelling may take up to a year to subside completely.
- To minimize swelling, you may be advised to keep your head elevated and use cold compresses as recommended by your surgeon
The recovery period for a male rhinoplasty varies from person to person, but most individuals can expect to return to work and resume their normal activities within one to two weeks. However, it is important to note that complete healing and the final results may take several months to become apparent. Your surgeon will provide you with specific post-operative instructions to promote proper healing and optimize your recovery.
During the recovery phase, it is crucial to follow your surgeon’s guidance, attend follow-up appointments, and take care of your nose as instructed. By doing so, you can help ensure a smoother recovery process and achieve the desired outcomes of your male rhinoplasty.
Remember, every individual’s recovery experience is unique, and it’s important to communicate openly with your surgeon about any concerns or questions you may have. They will guide you through the recovery period, providing the necessary support and advice to help you achieve a successful and satisfying outcome.
Complications After Male Rhinoplasty
Aside from the normal post rhinoplasty symptoms, sometimes, more serious complications might occur. Complications after a nose job are not common, however, it’s helpful to know them. They include:
- Persistent nosebleed
- Wound infection
- Anesthesia complications
- Asymmetric nose
- Scar formation
- Persistent numbness in the mid-facial region
- Nose deformity that requires further surgery (pollybeak deformity, wide nasal tip, columnella retraction, wide or irregular nasal dorsum, etc.)
Potential Risks
- Infection
- Bleeding
- Poor wound hearing
- Nasal Asymmetry or Shape irregularities
- Altered sensations
- Breathing difficulties
It is important to discuss these potential complications with your surgeon during the consultation process. They will provide you with a thorough understanding of the risks involved and take appropriate measures to minimize them. By selecting an experienced and board-certified surgeon, following pre and post-operative instructions, and attending all follow-up appointments, you can help reduce the likelihood of complications and ensure a successful outcome.
