Rhinoplasty For Men – Nose Reshaping Surgery

Men are often reluctant to get cosmetic surgery, however, when it comes to rhinoplasty, things are different. It’s a surgery that can help improve your breathing with the added benefit of reshaping your nose.

Male nose reshaping surgery is a popular procedure and it’s no surprise. The dramatic functional and cosmetic improvements it offers make it well worth it. Whether you have a dorsal hump, big nose, over projecting tip, or a wide nose, then rhinoplasty can fix this.

Since men usually want to maintain a masculine and strong-looking nose, Dr Kleid strives to give them just that, tailoring the rhinoplasty to specifically fit the patients needs. The results are subtle, yet effective.

What is Male Rhinoplasty?

Male rhinoplasty has several other names including, male nose reshaping surgery, male rhino, male nose job and male nose surgery.

As the name implies, male rhinoplasty is a surgery that aims to change the shape of a man’s nose. This procedure can either be done for purely cosmetic reasons or to treat breathing problems.

Compared to the traditional nose job, a male nose job is specifically designed to meet men’s cosmetic needs. It aims to reshape a man’s nose without feminizing it or giving it a “done” appearance. Dr Stephen Kleid achieves that by performing subtle changes while keeping the natural masculine aesthetics in mind.

Male Rhinoplasty vs Female Rhinoplasty

Obviously, the male nose looks different from the female nose. It has specific features that make it look more manly and masculine, including:

  • A straight nasal dorsum
  • A nasolabial angle of around 90 degrees (the angle between the upper lip and nose),
  • A wider dorsum than women
  • No supratip break (slight tip projection ahead of the nose)
  • A straight or slightly down-projecting tip

Dr Kleid believes that subtle changes often go a long way in changing the way a person looks. This is especially true for his male patients. He aims to fix nose deformities without leaving any rhinoplasty tell-tale signs or making the nose look any less natural or masculine.

These subtle alterations often cause a dramatic improvement in the overall appearance of your nose and face.

Male Rhinoplasty Candidate

Who needs a male rhinoplasty? A male nose job can treat breathing problems or it can be for purely cosmetic purposes. You’re a great candidate for rhinoplasty if have a :

  • Overly big nose
  • Excessively projecting nose
  • Dorsal hump
  • Down projecting nasal tip
  • Either a boxy or round nasal tip
  • Large wide nostrils
  • Narrow collapsed nostrils
  • Winged snarling nostrils
  • Crooked nose
  • Asymmetrical nose
  • Breathing problems due to nasal airway narrowing

A male nose job is very versatile and can be modified to fix multiple problems at once. Dr Kleid will do Tipplasty for tip problems, Alarplasty for nostril problems, and Septoplasty for septum problems. He will mix these techniques to give each patient the outcomes he wants.

During a male nose job, Dr Kleid will take into consideration all the masculine nasal features to give his male patients a manly nose job.

Male Rhinoplasty Benefits

The reason why rhinoplasty is so popular among our male patients is that it has so many benefits to offer. Although a male nose job is not a major surgery in the sense of the word, it offers many major benefits:

  • It can completely change the way you look, front and sideways (profile)
  • Gets rid of exaggerated nasal features (big nose, wide nostrils, round tip)
  • Specifically designed for men
  • Reshapes the nose according to well-established male aesthetic standards
  • Gives a natural appearance (no one should be able to tell you’ve had nose surgery)
  • Doesn’t leave visible scarring
  • Completely customizable to fit every man’s needs
  • And it will restore your self-confidence and positive body image

So, if you’re on the fence on whether or not you should get a male rhinoplasty, these advantages can help you know what you’re signing up for.

How is a Nose Job Performed

Although a patient can go under either general or local anesthesia, Dr Kleid prefers General Anesthesia. General anesthesia means that you will be completely unconscious during the procedure.

There are two ways Dr Kleid can access the deeper tissue of your nose: the open and the closed techniques:

  • In the open technique, Dr Kleid will make a skin incision right under the middle part of your nose (columnella)
  • In the closed technique, Dr Kleid will make an incision inside the nose

The type of incision that Dr Stephen chooses depends on what needs to be done. In general, a full male rhinoplasty requires an open incision. This allows Dr Kleid to gain access to the deeper tissue that gives your nose its shape: the cartilage and bone.

Dr Kleid will reshape the cartilage, cut out any excessive parts, refine the tip, and either debride the nasal bones or break them to make your nose smaller. He will do a combination of approaches to achieve the final desired outcome.

Since a male rhinoplasty is specifically tailored for men’s needs, Dr Kleid will implement several techniques to give the nose a masculine and manly look. He will:

  • Avoid over-reducing your dorsum to keep it straight
  • Maintain a calculated nasal width
  • Avoid both excessively refining the nasal tip and over-lifting the tip

After the surgery is complete, you will have your nose stuffed with gauze. You will be woken up and taken to the recovery room.

In general, male rhinoplasty is a one-day surgery and you can be able to go home after you’re surgery.

Male Rhinoplasty Recovery

Men often worry about the recovery period after a nose job. Is it hard? How painful is it? Will recovery be long?

Recovery after getting a male rhinoplasty can be a little uncomfortable, but it’s nothing that our patients can’t handle.

Here are the normal symptoms that you can expect after a male nose job:

  • Pain
    • Pain after male rhinoplasty usually peaks at around day 3-4 after your surgery. It will then start to decline.
    • Dr Kleid will prescribe a few effective painkillers to help.
  • Swelling
    • Facial swelling is normal and should be expected post male rhino.
    • Most of the swelling will be gone by 3-4 weeks, however, a very minimal amount might stay a bit longer.
  • Bruising
    • You should expect bruising around your nose and under your eyes after a male nose job.
    • The bruises will start off dark but will fade within a couple of weeks.
  • Nosebleeds
    • Minimal spotting is to be expected after your nose job.
    • Persistent bleeding is not normal and should prompt you to contact Dr Kleid.
  • Numbness
    • Your mid-facial area might feel numb post rhinoplasty. However, this is temporary and will improve with time.

The nasal splint might stay in place for 1-2 weeks. Removing the splint might be uncomfortable, but it should not cause any significant pain.

Rhinoplasty Recovery Do’s and Dont’s

Here is some recovery advice to help you speed up the healing after rhinoplasty:

  • Don’t sleep on your side for 3-4 weeks
  • Don’t blow your nose after sneezing for 4-6 weeks
  • Avoid sport activities until fully healed
  • Don’t wear glasses for 3-4 weeks
  • Use ice packs and cold towels to reduce the swelling
  • Follow all Dr Kleid’s instructions

In general, rhinoplasty recovery time is around 4-6 weeks. This depends on how invasive your surgery was and what was exactly done. In general, you can get back to work after 1-2 weeks after your nose job.

Complications After Male Rhinoplasty

Aside from the normal post rhinoplasty symptoms, sometimes, more serious complications might occur. Complications after a nose job are not common, however, it’s helpful to know them:

  • Persistent nosebleed
  • Wound infection
  • Anesthesia complications
  • Asymmetric nose
  • Scar formation
  • Persistent numbness in the mid-facial region
  • Nose deformity that requires further surgery (pollybeak deformity, wide nasal tip, columnella retraction, wide or irregular nasal dorsum, etc.)

Again, these complications rarely occur after a male nose job, so they shouldn’t be a major cause of worry. Dr Kleid takes extra care to avoid any serious side effects after male rhinoplasty.

Can Male Rhinoplasty Be Combined With Other Procedures?

Men can get other facial rejuvenation procedures in combination with rhinoplasty. All of these procedures are also adapted to maintain masculine features of the face. Male rhinoplasty can be combined with:

  • Facelift
  • Neck lift
  • Eyelid lift
  • Brow lift
  • Chin enhancement
  • Jawline enhancement
  • Profile enhancement

So, if you’re looking to refresh your look while maintaining a strong masculine appearance, then these surgeries are for you.

How Much Does Male Rhinoplasty Cost?

It’s a little hard to quote a specific price for a male nose job. There are so many things that go into calculating it.

It depends mostly on what exactly you need. Do you just want to fix your tip? Do you want to make your nose smaller too? Is there something else you want? The costs differ. This is why Dr Kleid provides his patients with a quote after seeing them and planning the procedure.

In general, our male patients find rhinoplasty affordable and worth the cost. We also provide several financing options for you. So, you don’t have to worry about one large lump sum.
